The terrain is quickly changing! We transitioned from the white granite of the Yosemite and got acquainted with walking on metamorphic rock within The Mikelumne Wilderness, Toiyabe National Forest.
We are also developing a new “tramily” . When first starting the trail, we met Maud (from the Netherlands). While our bout with Norovirus separated us back in April, the trail has a way of brining people back together. We ran into Maud (who now goes by “A Capella”) and “Great Dane” and “Hollywood” around a week ago and have been camping together each night. Chatting about life while cooking dinner, stretching and journaling each night.
Our first night out, we were camping in a pine forest next to a stream with a granite slope to our right. Kyle woke up around 11pm hearing loud twigs snapping, he listened with a sharp ear and felt there was something large moving outside our tent. I awoke too, and heard “huffing” sounds. We both sat awake for over an hour, hoping the animal (which be both presumed was bear) would leave. The noises faded, needless to say there were no bear attacks! We did hear from a hiker the next day that he saw a mama black bear with her cub in the area we had been sleeping. Further, we had a noticed pinned up at a subsequent camp site stating: “Angry Bear Camp - Large Cinnamon Black Bear Aggressive. Bluff Charged Twice to 40 Feet”.
