The desert is not desert!
Kyle and I are 2.5 days into our hike and already we have 41.1 miles under our belt!
The southern monument was spectacular! However, the biggest surprise so far has been the terrain of the “desert”, there are thousands of wild flowers in blue, orange, pink and yellow, as well as grasses and shrubs. There are small islands of pine trees which spring up at 5,000 feet of elevation , creating a little shady oasis.
We have met a handful of colorful people, some who have “trail names” - a special nickname adopted by long-distance backpackers - such as “Pick-up”, “Twikle”, “Stuff Guy” and “Mr. Dale”.
Weather wise, we had rain our first day on trail (figure that), otherwise it’s been sunny and 70’s.
Looking forward to Warner Springs.
